John Damianos is a fellow in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Mayo Clinic. Prior to his fellowship, he completed college and medical school at Dartmouth and internal medicine residency at Yale. He sits on the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Alliance for Education on Probiotics, and is the author of their quarterly research review. His academic research has spanned topics from Clostridioides difficile infection to diet in inflammatory bowel disease to mechanisms of bloating and distension in disorders of gut-brain interaction. He has authored textbook chapters on the gut microbiota and given talks on the role of probiotics in liver disease and COVID-19. Clinically, he is interested in microbiome therapeutics as they pertain to the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, particularly inflammatory bowel disease and disorders of gut-brain interaction.
